Chile is the fifth largest exporter and the ninth largest producer of wines in the world. The climate has been described as midway between that of California and France. The most common grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. There are several defined viticultural regions in Chile: Atacama, Coquimbo, Aconcagua, Central Valley and Southern Chile.
